Kyotaro Ichikawa, een jongen die nauwelijks op de onderste trede van de sociale ladder van zijn school staat, gelooft heimelijk dat hij de gemartelde hoofdrolspeler is in een of andere psychologische thriller. Hij brengt zijn dagen door met het bedenken van manieren om het vredige leven van zijn klasgenoten te ontwrichten en smacht naar Anna Yamada, het klassenidool. Maar Kyotaro is lang niet de onrustige tiener die hij zich voordoet... en het blijkt dat Anna zelf ook een beetje vreemd is!
