Deze meeslepende tv-serie is de meest recente bewerking van Jane Eyre, naar de klassieke roman van Charlotte Brontë. De serie werd in 2006 gemaakt door de BBC. In deze verfilming komt Brontë's beroemde vertelling vol drama en passie beter dan ooit uit de verf. Na een liefdeloze jeugd in een weeshuis komt Jane Eyre in dienst bij Mr Rochester, als gouvernante van zijn pupil Adèle. Jane wordt verliefd op haar mysterieuze werkgever en na verloop van tijd blijkt dat de passie wederzijds is. Ondanks het standverschil besluiten ze te trouwen. Maar dan ontdekt Jane een duister geheim uit het verleden van haar geliefde. Ze vlucht en wordt ziek van honger en verdriet liefdevol opgenomen door St. John Rivers en zijn zusters.
